Forum topic: No more transcoding needed?

Hello!

The new Flash Player can load and play .mp4,.m4v,.m4a,.mov and .3gp files using the same NetStream API you use to load FLV files now.

This means, that we don't have to transcode an uploaded mov or mp4 file anymore, because the new Flash Player can play these files directly.

Is this means that in the future we won't need FFmpeg to create a video sharing website?

The only additional video codec that Flash 9 Update 3 supports is H.264 .

The latest version of 5.x-3.x-dev will passthrough (not transcode) FLV, VP6 and H.264 provided the bitrate, width and framerate are all less than the transcoding parameters.
